About Us

The Full Story

I started off learning sign as a child from my mother and a Kids TV program that ran when I was young called 'Signing Time'. After that early I still remembered a handful of signs and would use them to communicate but it wasn't until middle school that I started to relearn sign with vigor. I had learned that my family has a history of going deaf quite early in life, if not already being hard of hearing and I figured that at some point I would be next. At the time it was also a quiet way to talk to my friends in class. In high school I really started to get the hang of ASL and over the summer I was able to interpret at a restaurant which lit the fire of my passion for ASL even more. In my junior year of high school I switched schools and at my new school I started a sign language club which quickly developed into my junior project and my aspiring 'side hustle' of teaching professionally. So the creation of the Non-verbal Library was made and QR codes put up around the school that accessed the page when you scanned it. After that project I decided to focus more on trying to further support my community and find more kids and adults to teach.
